George Memorial Library (Richmond)

Researching U.S. Civil War Records
10:00 am in the computer lab
Program is presented by Daniel Sample, manager of the Genealogy and Local History department at the library.Learn how and where to obtain copies of compiled military service records and pension-application files for both Union and Confederate soldiers. Databases such as Ancestry.com, Family Search and Fold3 will be discussed, as well as websites such as the Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System website and the American Civil War Homepage.
Those attending the program are invited to tour the exhibit, “Lincoln: The Constitution and the Civil War,” which is on display in the Bohachevsky Gallery in the lower level of George Memorial Library through April 4. Drawing on recent scholarship, this exhibition encourages a deeper understanding of Lincoln’s life, policies, and accomplishments. Free and open to the public. Reservations required. This talk will reveal the history of naturalization laws and requirements in the United States and how this affected your ancestors and their naturalizations.
